WAIKOUAITI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The men'thly meeting of the Waikouaiti County Council, held on Tuesday, was a*.tendeJ by Crs. A. S. Oiboll (chairman) John Foot". Charles Duke, James M'GUI. Alex-and-i Kilpatrick, and George E. Charltoiz. REPORTS. \V. Rendall, inspector, reported — "HawKe-bury Riding.— l have the honour to repoit on the application of Mr C. H. Overton in reference to leasing the reserve on the waikouaiti River for flaxrnilling purposes. Mr Overton is under a misapprenension. The part applied for is private property. The contract on Stony Peak road, Mount Roya l , has bten completed. Cameron's road -at^ the Stoneburn has been repaired, and arrangements have been mad* to repair the boundary road at Moonlight."— Received and approved. " Merlon Riding.— M'Grath's road has been surface-.! throughout, but will require a light coat of gravel over about 420 yards, at an estimated cost of £32. I recommend that the east aide of this road should be ditched. The road to the Native reserve has been repaired, and PryoVs road has been placed in good order to receive metal. Russell-; load has been commenced, and the Rouik 1 Hill road is progressing slowly."— Receivr •anjd approved. " Blueskin Riding. — A beam in -bong Beach footbridge has broken down, and the other is decayed. There are sever*" 1 washouts in the calling of the Lower riarbour road, which is generally low and rutted in the centre. J Stark and Co wrote advising the council of a new book, The Law of Roads, Bridges, and Streets in New Zealand "—" — Left to the chairman with power to purchase should he think fit The Secretary of the Otago Benevolent Institution wrote forwarding the quarterly return of outdoor relief cases on the books on January 1,-1908, and the weekly leturn of cases of outdooi lohef — Received and approved T. F Martin, counsel to the X Z C.A.. wrote forwarding opinions re dedication of road, special r-ate collected, and ferry halfmile limit. — Received. The Receiver of Land Revenue wrote informing the council that he h-ad. paid to its credit the sum of .£IOB 15s 4d, being land revenue from September 2 to November 30, 1907 —Received James Summers wrote resigning his position as ranger for the Hawksbury and Merton Ridings. — Received. Fresh applications to be called for at next meeting of council. FINA.NCE. The following tenders were accepted- — C. B. Hoad, £49 17s 6d, for nine chains form«rtion Karitane School road; J. Collins, JE66, for 220 yards of metal. Lower Harbour road, Blueskin; W. H. Peddie. £27 ss. for 70 yards of rotten rock, formation and culvert, Cowan's road, Hawksbury Riding, J. "Wadsworth, £49, for 48 chains formation, culverting, and 120 yards of rotten rock, on the School road, Lower Harbour. B'ueskin. The Finance Committee reported having examined the accounts, amounting to .£197 4s 7d, for the month of February, and these were passed for payment OENERAI.. Cr Kilpairick drew attention to the damage that was being done to the county paddock by horses being turned in there by people passing through. — It was decided to lock the gate It was resolved, on the motion of Cr M'Gill, seconded by the Chairman — '• That all unpaid rates and penalties he given into the hands of the county soTicitbr for irrn ediate collection." The nest meeting of the council was fixed 1 foi March 24.
