OAMARU NOTES.
(From Oxtb, Own Cokrebpondeitt.) OAMABiD, February 18. The annual meeting of the Oamaru Toonnioal Classes Association was held on Tuesday evening, the attendance of students and subscribers being email. The report showed that 556 students were on the roll for 44 classes last year, but the managers hoped that with the advantages now offered toy a new and well-equipped building the attendance would be larger this coining winter. The balance sheet showed! that the receipts amounted to £911, and thai the year closed with a credit balance of £5. Several speakers, including the- Key. F. Gr« Buckingham and Messrs W. Cron and JMitchell, made reference to the value of the work whkh was being -done, and the presentation of certificates and other business closed che meeting. Mr E. W. Monson, local manager for the Union S.S. Company, is leaving in a • few days on a six weeks' holiday, his health having been rather indifferent for somo time. He will be relieved by Mr Digby Smith, of the Wellington office. . Mi«s Fergueson, M.A., lady principal of the Waitoki -Girls High School, leaves early, in March for an extended trip to treat Britain and Europe. It is her intention, during her absence, which will last about 10 or 11 months, to spend some time m the Study of educational conditions in the Old Country. The Waifcaki Acclimatisation Society had decided to 6ecure the services of two experienced stalkers to kill oft malformed! deer heads in the society's ground. One experienced stalker has been selected, and suitable names have been mentioned for the other appointment, but arrangements nave not vet been made. „,.«»„•.• The induction of the Rev. J. 6. S. BarN lett to the incumbency of St. Luke's Parish, Oamaru, took place on Sunday, bis Lordship the Bishop of Dunedin. attending matins for thft purpose, and preaching front the text I Cor., xii, 27 to 31. In the evening the Rev. Mr Bartlett preached foi« the first time to a. large congregation. He will be welcomed at a parish gathering on Tuesday evening-, and the new mission hall recently erected at Meadowbank will bo opened on Thursday evening by the "Venv Archdeacon Gould.
A Crimean veteran And hie wife, Mr and Mrs Charles Snow, -who reside in a little almehpuse at Ealing, the other day celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding day. Mr Snow was with the First Coldetream Guards in 'the Crimea, and wai Uf the. fore at the capture of Sebastopol.
