GALE IN THE BRITISH ISLES

LONDON, February 23. A gale raged throughout the Midlands, the North-west of England, and Ireland.

Terrific hail stopped hundreds of football matches, and three grand stands were unroofed.

The market hall at Siockport was wrecked, and a marquee, in which were 460 children, collapsed at Stafford. All the children, were rescued.

Damage to the extent of several hundred thousand pounds was done.

The schooner Reginald Fisher capsized in the Mensey, and eight persons were drowned.
