GRADING FLAX

DEPUTATION OF MILLERS

WELLINGTON. February 14.

A deputation from the Flaxmillers' Association waited on the Hon. Mr M'Nab to-day. Complaint was made that there was a lack of uniformity in grading at different ports. It was suggested that a. sample hank of each grade should be placed at each port. The deputation asked that the bonus pre-wously offered for an, improved method of treating flax should be renewed. Several 'minor complaints about the flax regulations were made. In, reply to the deputation, the Minister, speaking about the application for a bonus, said he did not want to encumber hi© Estimates with a large sum of money which, was not being taken adv antage of, but he would not place an obstacle in the way of a bonus again being offered if it wer« likely to have the desired effect. A conference of those people interested in the industry would no doubt re-ult in a great deal of good. He had no wish to see manufacturers being put to unnecessary expense, and would consult with Mr >Fulton on .hi 6 return to New Zealand about the minor matters brought under hw notice. The difficulty concerning gi.K'."T could then be definitely settled.
