BUTCHERS' STRIKE.
TIMARU. Fcbruai-y 13. Tliis morning all the butchers at tlist Pareora Freezing Works struck on account of one of their number being discharged for "smoking on the board.'' There is a special place provided for smoking, but the butcher discharged infringed the regulations by smoking on the boaid. One of the directors of the company (Mr R. H. Rhodes^ unsuccessfully end"a\ouied to settlo Ihe matter amicably. The men were given, until 3 30 tins afternoon to return to work, failing which other* would be got in their places. In the meantime the workfe are stopped. February 14. The stiike at. the Paieora freezing works has ended, the butchers ie-unni;R work this morning without Raining anything by their art ion. The butcher who was discharged yesterday for smoking while at work has not beun taken on again.
