OHTRAM. February 17.—1t is with deep regret that

I record the sudden death of Constable Graham, which event took place at his residence on Thursday evening, 13th inst. Although he had complained of pains about his chest and heart, and had been attended by Dr Cattan, no one ever thought the end was so near; but death is- no respecter of age or persons, and called himi away at the comparatively early «ge of 53. Very general sympathy is felt for his widow and young family. The sad news will be heard wiih regret in the Oamaru district, especially in the locality of Ngapara, where the deceased was stationed previous to his coming to Outram. During the short term—four years —Constable Graham has been with us he always carried out his duties in a tactful manner. The funeral took pl«ce on Sunday, and was largely attended. Bush Fire.—On Saturday the bush in the Glen caught fire. For a time it seemed as if the conflagration would reach Mr Mather's flourmill, but fortunately the wind changed, causing the flame 3to twvel in a different direction. The Taieri.—Some of the oldest residents of Outram, say they have never seen the Taieri River so low or so clear as at present.
