MEETINGS OF CREDITORS
A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Henry Dunnings, butcher, was held before the Official Assignee (Mr C. C. Giaham) on 31st ult. Mi W. L. Moore appeared on bankrupt's behalf, and Mr C. X. Scurr for Samson Bros. Messrs Donald Reid and the Otago Tanners' Cooperative Association were also represented.
The unsecured creditors were: — S*tronach, • Morris, and Co., £17 4s 8d : Otago Farmers' Co-op., £21 12s; National Mortgage. £35 10s 3d; Wm. Samson (Burnside 1 . £39 10s; Wm. Gregg and Go., £8 16s 8d; Samson Bros. (Burnsido), £6 1= 3d— total £128 14s lOd. The only secured creditor was Donald Reid and Co., £303 6<> 9d, mortgage over house, fihich, however, was estimated to produce only £220. Aa-sets were shown as: — Took, £2; book debts, £70; furniture, £20; total, £92, leaving- a deficiency of £120 16 7d. Bankrupt, in hie statement, eaid he started business as a butcher in Dunedin 12 years ago. and was now 67 yoare of a^e. Up till 1902 he was doing well, but since then his business had slowly fallen away with the result that he was compelled to file. He had purchased a house in Union street, but was now mortgaged to Messrs Donald Reid and Co. He had owned a number of shares in the Otago Farmers" Co-operative Association, but the latter sold the shares in order to reduce his indebtedness to them. Bankrupt said he had no proposal to make. He had put his affairs entirely into the hands of the Official Assignee. There was not a quorum present, but the creditors were unanimous in the opinion that the case was eimplv one of hardship, and rhat, no opposition should be offered to bankrupt's discharge. The meeting 'was adjourned sine die. A meeting of creditors in the estate of William Pollock, late of Gore. UveTy stablekeeper (deceased), was held in the Assignee's office on the 12th The estate of deceased, on the petition of the executrix (Mr Agnes White Gore), was ordered by the Supreme Court to be adniinibtered by the Official Assignee under " The Administration Act, 1679, Amendment Act. 1888." The creditois present were Mr Harges't (representing the South and Farmers' Coorceratne As=o< lation), Mrs A R. Brown (Roflyr). and Mrs A. White (Gore)^ Mr S. Inder (Gore) represented the secured creditor (G. Low saddler. Gore), and Mr J. G. L. Hewitt was present on behalf of the esecutnx 'Che principal unsecured creditors in the h°t submitted, amounting to £67 5s 9d, were Messrs A Johnstone. undertaker (Gore). £11 s= , Southland Farmers' Co-operative Assotiation (GoTe), £7 Is 3d; Mrs A. R Brown (Roslvn). i' 6, D T. Coomer (Gore). £5 10s; Mis A. White (Gore), £14 os Gd , J. S Keave (solicitor, Gore). £10 10s. The on'y secured creditor was G Low (Goie), the amount secured being £44 money lent and infeieat thereon in connection ivith a horse known as Cannon Shot The assets totalled £77 ss, and included cash from sale of a. hor°e and harness £31 ss, and estimated value of deceased's share in the estate of ins father (also deceased) £46. Another item of cash, for sale of a mare. £5 was included in the assets, bringing the tota 1 up to £83 5s 9d The balance left for division among the unsecured creditors, after payment of £14 to the secured creditor, was estimated at £39 5b 9d. After going into the matter, the Assignee remarked that after payment of probate, administration expenses, funeral charges, etc , there would be very little left for division, and the estate was, by consent, left in his hands to be dealt with to the best advantage.
