AUCKLAND SHIPMENTS

AUCKLAND, February 6.

For the fortnight just ending there are in cold 6toro at Auckland and Glasgow freezing work-, for sfiipmcnt by the Turakina, leaving Wellington on February 13, the to;al of 5964 boxes of butter for the English market. In addition to this quantity there are 700 boxes for South Africa, and 55 for the South Sea Islands — a total for the fortnight of 10,719 boxes, or just on 263 tons, representing a value over all grades of about £33,232. It ie quite probable, however, that some of this butttr may be held in store for the winter season. For the corresponding fortnight of last year ■the export was 10,897 boxes, or 272 tons, so that, the present fortnight dees not show much of a decrease on the surface, but last year at this time huge quantities of .butter were being stored for winter. As a matter of fact, the dry period during January and to date is causing a very large decrease in the output. For the fortnight ended January 10 the export was 14,036 boxes; in the fortnight ended January 24 the output for export dropped to 11,437 boxes — a decrease in a fortnight of 63 tone, — while the present quantity for export is a decrease on the previous shipment of 30 tons, which represents a decrease in four weeks of 83 tons or. roughly speaking:, about £990 in money value.
