A NEW ZEALAND BITTER SHIPMENT.

BEATS DANISH IN HOME MARKET.

(From Our Own Correspondent.} WELLINGTON, February 6Mr J. Muir, of the firm of Nathan and Co., has (says the Post) received cable advices from London that the whole shipment of butter by the steamer Tongariro, which left Wellington on December 19, met a buoyant market and realised the highest prices ever given for Now Zealand butter in England. It brought 130s" per cwt, which is set down as being 3s per cwt higher than the present quotation for best Danish butter. It is anticipated that the High Commissioner for New Zealand will confirm this report by official cablegram. Another firm, which does an extensive butter export business from Wellington, received cable advices to-day which e-av that New Zealand and Danish butter sold on the London market this week at equal prices — viz., 130s per cwt. The price auoted constitutes a record for New Zealand butter. The best quotations last ! season ranged between ll p s and 120s. The Department of Industries has received cable advices which place the price of the Tongariro's shipment at 130s per cwt, and adds that this price is in advance of that commanded by the best Danish butter at present. For the last few }-ears Danish buter has ruled 3s or 4s per cwt dearer than the New Zealand article. The returns realised from the Tongariro's shipment are the more remaikable for the reason that it was probably the heaviest consignment of butter that ever left New Zealand in one vessel. The total camp to over 47,000 boxes, of which nearly 12,000 were fiom Wellington disti ict. The list of boxes sent from the various centres is appended : — Boxe«.
