TROUBLES OF TRAVELLING
Reverting to New Zealand, Sir John Madden had been pleased with Rotorua, where he got some good fiihing. He is an expert angler, and regretted that time would not permit him to do any fishing in the streams of Otago. Though expressing himself pleased with the comfortable travelling in the South Island, Sir John did just the reverse concerning the North. He said it was impossible to procure food between Wellington and Rotorua, and there was no accommodation for either ladies or gentlemen. The W«nganui trip was also spoilt by discomfort. Things were evidently vastly different in the south, and his journey through Canterbury and Otago hadi been pleasant and comfortable.
