Alister M'Tavieh, who was the prime actor in the sensational affair on the Queen street wharf the day following- Boxing Day. by which Herbert Sutor, an officer of iho American st( amor Qui'o, narrow)'escaped being shot, M'Ta\ish afterwards turning the revoher upon himself and inflicting injuries to his head, made his ur>pcarance this afternoon before Mr Kettle at the Police Court.

M'Tavish, who is in appearance a tall, well-proportioned man of about 30 yeai^, limped into cotut with the aid of a st'ck, while his injured left eye was hidden under a considerable thickness of wadding.

He was charged wkli the attempted murder of Sutor'and subsequent attempt at suicide. After briefly outlining the circumstances, Mr Gorden expressed the opinion that M'Tavish, who had shown eccentric behaviour prior to the shooting, was labouring under a slight attack of delirium trcmens at the time of the occurrence.

Prisoner, who reserved his defence, was committed for trial.
