DIPRISONED FOR SLY GROGSELLING. ' - AUCKLAND, January 16. At the Police Court to-day, before Me Dyer, the partly-heard charges of sly grogsslling against John Sheehan and Bert Duncan were proceeded with. After considerable evidence the accused were each sentenced to a month's imprisoirnent. SALE OF HOP BEERy TIMARU, January 16. At the Magistrate's Court" to-day ft. J. Pugh, a country storekeeper, was -fined 20j and costs (£2 19s) for selling beer without a license. Two constables from Christchurch visited the store qdv three occasions, and purchased hop beer manufactured by Pugh, which an analysis showed contained 6.63 per cent, of proof spirit. The defendant paid he did not know the beverage was intoxicating. This is the first prosecution of the kind in Timaru.
