THE WOOL SALES.
LONDON, January 14. The number of bales arrived to date for the forthcoming wool sales is 353,500 bales, whereof 181,000 bales -were forwarded direct to manufacturers, leaving 187,000 available. January 16. Wool: Lack- of animation characterised s fhe Antwerp sales. Merinos, compared with November sales, showed 5 to 8 per cent, decline. Crossbreds were neglected; 8550 bales of La Plata were offered, and 1554 sold. NAPIER WOOL SALES. NAPIER, January 14. The second wool sale of the season was much more successful than the first. Bidding was spirited, and prices of the December sale were fully maintained, a shade higher being obtained for special lots. The condition of the wool offered was much heavier than last year owing to the dry weather. The demand for lambs' wool was keen, and in some cases bidding, which opened at sd, went up to 9<3. Locks jund pieces sold well. The following average prices were realised: Super half bred, 9sd to lljd; fine crossbred, BJd to 9Jd>; coarse crossbred, bright and wellconditioned, 8d to 9d; inferior, 6Jd to 7Jd. Lambs: Good bright-conditioned, 8d to 9d; inferior to medium, 6ja to 7Jdj locks, to 7£d; inferior mediums, 4£d to 6dWELLINGTON WOOL SALES. WELLINGTON, January 17. The January seri«s of the wool sales wera held totday, "when between 8000 and 9000 bales were submitted Buyers were strongly represeuted, and pricess showed a decline by comparison with previous figures. A good deal of rough-conditioned wool was included in tha catalogue. The fall to-day, as compared with December, is put down at id on fin© wools, Jd on medium crossbred, Jd on coarse wools, and id on inferior.
