any port, January and February shipment, sold at 40s 6d. January 15. At the tallow sales 1029 casks wore offered, and 398 sold. Mutton: Fine, 343 3d; medium, 325. Beef: Fine, 335: medium 31s. January 16. Tho Bank of England rate is reduced to 5 per con t. January 16. Wheat: The market is quiet and a shad© easier owing to weaker American quotations, less demand, and to improved reports from the Argentine. Cargoes are dull. South Australian, afloat, is offering at 41s 6d; January and February shipment, 41s; Australian spot, slow, 45s to 45s 6d. Eiour: Steady and unohanged. London 29s 6d to 30a; Glasgow, 80b to 30s 6d. Sugar: Quiet. German, 9s lOd; first marks, 11s 7d. The Bradford wool market is quiet, awaiting the London opening. Common sixties, 25id; super, 26Jd. Butter. Very firm. Choicest Australian, 116s to 117s; secondary, 112s to 114s; choicest New Zealand, 116s, in rare instances 120s, buyers preferring Australian, as it was cheaper. The tone of the market is strong on short supplies, and 1 the news of the hot weather in Australia. Cheese: Firm. -White New Zealand, 62s to 635; coloured, 64b. Sheepskins: At the sales 3000 bales were offered, including 2150 Australasian, and two-thirda were sold. Merinos declined a farthing to a halfpenny, fi'he crossbreds * halfpenny, coarse three-farthingß. January 19. New Zealand hemp steady at about 103 decline. Linseed oil, J825 10s. Wheat : An Australian cargo sold at 40s. Rabbits: Fair trade. Large Sydneys are retailing at 14a to 14s 6d; Melbourne, 13s to 13s 6d: New Zealand extras, 15s. At the rfcbbitskin sales 3076 bundles were offered, and 2580 sold. Best New Zealand realised, high prices; other sorts declined Id; Australian declined. 4d to Id for best, and Ij'd for other s6xts. Frozen Meat.— Mutton: Canterbury not quotable/ as -too few offering ; North Island. 3id; best brands, 3 9-16 d. New Zealand lamb : • Canterbury heavy, sid; other qualities not quoted; Southland and North Island, none offering. New Zealand beef: Ox fores, 2 13-16 d; ox hinds, unchanged. * River Plate sheep: Heavy, 2Jd; light, 3d. ,Beef: Ox fores, 2Jd; hinds, unchanged. The total quantity" of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 3,130,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,140,000 quarters. The Atlantio shipments were 855,000 quarters, and the Pacific shipments 240,000 quarters.
