LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.
CULVERDEN ESTATE. «i CHBJSTCHURCH, January^M. A start is to be made this week with the survey and subdivision of the Culyerden Estate, which the Government intend acquiring under the Land for Settlements Act. The survey party leaves this city tomorrow, and Mr G.^H. M'Clure,. district surveyor, follows on Thursday, fit is anticipated that the survey will take six or seven weeks fo complete. The -Compensation Court, which will fix the price to be paid for the estate, meets on March ,9. WELLINGTON, January 15. , The Marainganga- Estate, on the East Coast, just south of Cape Turnagain, was submitted to auction at -..Wellington to-day by Messrs "Murray, RoberJ®, and :Co., on behalf of Messrs Hahdyside, Roberts, and Co. The estate consists \>f '36,600- acres, and was offered in 22 blocks, ranging from 580 to 4720 .acres. -Thirteen blocks were sold, aggregating 20,111 acres,' at prices > varying from "£2 15s to £10 16s per acre. J - Nearly £100,-000 in cash was paid over' by the various purchasers. ,
