REVENUE RETURNS." ' i MELBOURNE, January 1. Th© Federal ' -CxuAoms - and '• Excise revenue for the half-year ended December 31 totalled £6,110,657: - The. State revenue for the same period amounted to £4,125,000, being an increase of £369,348.
January 4. The Federal revenue for- the six months ended December *31 ' amounted to JG6,034,683, an increase of £1,207,000 over the figures for 1906, - - . Mr Bent, > Premier of- Victoria, states that the half-year just ended -has yielded a surplus.-of £260,000; and he expects that the surplus at.the^end of the year will be nearly a million. The Herald estimates the wheat yield of Victoria .'at 8,682j000 bushels, or an average of a little over five bushels to the acre.

The-Tevenue of this" State for the halfyear ended December 31 amounted to £7,191,000, beings an increase of, £627,000 over the corresponding half-year of 1906. The railway revenue increased- by £303,000. The sum oL £1,996,000 was returned to the State by the Commonwealth Treasury, being ' an- increase of £510,682 over the corresponding period of last year. The year's revenue from all "sources amounted to £14,011,000, being an increase of- £899,992 over the figures of 1906. ' ' -
