A DRAINAGE EXPERT.
AUCKLAND, January 6. ASTOng tne passengers by the Mokia from Sydney was Mr T. Midgley Taylor, a well-known drainage engineer, who nas come from London to report upon a comprehensive drainage scheme for the Oity cf -Auckland and suburbs. Mr Taylor is accompanied by his wife. After fulfiling his 'agreement with the) Auckland City he proposes to visit the various places of interest in New Zealand. With .regard to the trend of sanitary matters, at Home, Mr Taylor stated that a great advance had been made, especially during 'the past ,few years. Experiments are being made that wilP enable the authorities in the Old Country to overcome " their" difficulties with certainty. Several very big schemes are at present either in hand or in contemplation, including one for the complete drainage of Leeds, at a cost of £1,500,000. The method to be adopted is chemical treatment, followed by bacteria treatment, which is the most up-to-date known to science. London is putting in lit diameter sewers to bring its system up to requirements, and the authorities " there are contemplating bacteria treatment ; at least, they are experimenting with it. " -
