MILTON v. NORTH-EAST VALLEY.

Four rinks from Milton played four rinks from North-East Valley on the Valley Green on January 2, and after a very enjoyable game victory rested with the Milton Club by 39 points. At the conclusion of th« game | Mr King (president) welcomed the visitors, and thanked them for the very enjoyable 1 game, and hoped they would soon have the pcksuie of meeting the Milton bowl-ers again. The recently-formed Fairfield Club sent in four rinks to play the Dunedin Club on Saturday, and those taking part apparently enjoyed themselves despite the defeat which they again had to submit to. The weather was beautiful, and the green was playing very true. The first tournament held by the South Otago Centre under the new constitution was opened on New Year's Day on the Stirling and Kaitangata Greens, and was continued next day on the- Balclutha, Stirling, and Kaitangata Greens. Considerable interest was -taken in the progress and results of the- tournament locally, and on all the greens there was a good sprinkling of onlookers, including a. number of ladies. The deciding finals were played at Kaitangata, and during the whole of the 2nd this good country green presented an animated appearance. General satisfaction is expressed by bowlers taking part in the games in regard to all the arrangements, and a special word of praise was accorded by the bowlers to the energetic secretary (Mr H. C. Jones) for the completeness and thoroughness of his work. During an interval in the play on the Kaitangata Green on the 2nd the Mayor of the town (Mr Yates) complimented the ladies of the district on the result of their efforts in raising £150 for the purpose _of providing better bowling accommodation on the Kaitangata Green.
