The Otago Golf Club's New Year tourna- I meat was continued) yesterday on the Balmacewen Links, when the ladies' events were entered upon. In the morning, when * I Bogey Handicap was played, a southerly wind caaised a. good deal of trouble to the players, but in the afternoon, when the first round of the- Ladies' Amateur Championship of Otago was entered upon, the weather conditions were perfect. The afternoon was bright and warm, and there was a complete absence of wind. As the tournannemt progresses the • linkis are becoming daily keener, and 1 a few showers of Tain would "be very welcome. The ; play yesterday was not, on. the whole, of a particularly high order, and, considering the ] conditions, it should have been better. Some good round's were, however, done, and Miss ] Wilson's score of 98, and Miss Scott's and ( Mssa EL Rattray's 102 must be considered very satisfactory. The Ladies' Championship is decided in two rounds, the final taking place in the morning. The course is somewJiat longer than that ordinarily used by the ladies, being practically the same as the men's, with tihe exception that the teeing greens are brought •somewhat closer. The entries for all events are very satisfactory, ! and include players from Christchurch", ! Timani, and Dunediii. ; BOGEY HANDICAP. : The forenoon event was a Bogey Handl- i cap, to which, at ladies took pait. The , winnjet w;aa found! is. Mra Km&^ who h*d A j^ ,

WON BY MISS X RATTRAY. The annual New Year tournament, pro* moted by the Otago Golf Club, was continued! on the Balmacawen Links on Saturday. Tha chief event of the day was, of course, the second and final round of the Ladies' Championship of Otago. On the result of the play^ in the first round on Friday afternoon the winner was looked for amongst Misa Wilson (Christchurch, 98) and Miss K. Rattiay and Miss Scott (102 each). Exeeptl that the weather was a, trifle warm, the conditions could not have been improved upon from a golfing standpoint. There was an absence t>f wind, and the links were very keen. Miss Wilson started 'off well, and right up to Jie third last hole she was shaping very well indeed. At the " Gorge." however, she got into difficulties through; finding the hazard, taking 11 strokes to da what in a ladies' match - should have Bsent done in at least five less. Thia unfortunate occurrence, which in golf might happen at any time, was no doubt responsible for Miss Wilson losing the coveted championship. As it was she had to be content with tieing with Miss Scott for second place, whil»t v Miss K. Rattray, who did the first round on Friday" in 102. and played tha 'second round in 97, won the Otago Ladies' Championship. Misa Rattray's card was ai good one, and showed consistent golf throughout. " - ■ Miss Ra.ttray's Championship score of -27 was also the best net score in- the Seoondl Medal Handicap, played in conjunction witlt the pecond round of the Championship. The next best net scores tt«t« made by Misa M'Lean (Napier) 98 and Mius Hblmea 99. The final decision of tne Medal Haaidicapa depends on the result of Ihe play-off for second place in the Ohiaanpionship, because of the Tule deferring one "player from winning two trot>hies in one competrMon. There was 'a laTgre number of entries foi? the Miied Foursome Bogey Handicap, wMchf .was play«d on Saturday afternoon.
