UNEMPLOYMENT.
LOCAL POSITION IMPROVED. TEW LABOURERS OUT OF WORK. Thfe unemployment returns for the past week show a very substantial reduction as compared with recent figures, the number now on the Labour Department’s books being only 45. Of these a smaller proportion than usual are labourers, only 21 lying listed under this head. Two farm hands and one boot repairer have been placed in private employment during the v-eek. The detailed returns, of those seeking employment are as follow: — Blacksmith, 1; clerical, 3; cooks, stewards, etc., 3; drivers, motor and horse, 2; engineers, 2; farm hands, 5; farrier, 1; gardeners, 2; gasfittcr, 1; (labourers, 18; saam»n< firemen, etc., 1; shop assistant, 1; station hand, 1; storemen and warehousemen, 1.
