U BA STREET BURGLARY.

TWO MEN ARRESTED. Walter Leonard Hammington was charged at Wellington yesterday, with breaking and entering by night into the premises of L. Evans and Co., drapers, of Cuba Street, Wellington. The burglary took place in July last, and stock to the value of £450 was stolen. Chief-Detective Kemp in asking for a remand until the 16th, stated that the accused was arrested on Monday by Detectives McLennan and Tricklebank. Mr. C. A. L. Treadwell, appearing for tho accused, agreed to the remand, but asked that the bail should not be substantial. Chief-Detective Kemp said that the charge was a serious one and in his opinion the bail should be substantial. His Worship (Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, 5.M.,) admitted the accused to bail in a bond of £2OO, or two sureties of £IOO. William Patterson was charged with receiving part of the stolen property, knowing it to have been stolen. A remand to the same date was granted, and bail was fixed at a similar amount.
