BOWLING

OPENING OF LEVIN CLUB. The opening of the bowling season in Levin took place on Saturday in perfect weath'er. There was a splendid attendance of players, while quite a large number of ladies were also present. Mr. Walter Bull, President of the club, extended to all bowlers a hearty welcome, but regretted that more visitors were not present, due to openings in other places. Telegrams were received from various clubs wishing the Levin Club »• very success. Mr. Bull slated that during the season the club had held various tournament games, and had been successful in winning trophies, and hoped keen competition would result ih-s season. He then called upon Mrs. Dull to roll the first bowl, which she did ad mist applause. Din ing the day afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies and enjoyed, while prior to leaving the visitors were again eiit'ert ained.

Two rinks from Otaki were present and indulged in enjoyable games. The home team won one, lost one, but on the aggregate had six points to the good. Following are details of the games. Levin being mentioned first in each

After the tea adjournment Levin s'ecurrd seven on two heads, and made the game 10- -15, but on the next four heads only scored one. Derliam, Ryder. Wilson, Bull fs) v. Li<t. Xieolson. St George, Williams (s), 23 - 15. The Levin rink proved a • plendid one and put up hot shots iiroughoul. On the lirst head Levin c<*red three, but this was equalised by Otaki scoring three on the next head, followed by one, giving the visitors a light advantage. On the next two heads the home team scored no less Hum seven, 10—I. Fine play followed, • he leads and skips playing well, while Wilson sent along some line bowls. After the tea adjournament Otaki gained a few points, but from the 10th head failed to score. An Otaki rink —Whiteman. A. Smith, •L Bills and D. Noble (s) visited Shanon on Saturday and met Bartholomew, Go vis, Whibley, and Galiahardie (s). V line game resulted. Otaki winning by one point only. On the first two heads the visitors scored six, but on the 8111 head scores were even, 7—7. Then Shannon secured the lead and on the :oth head were three in the lead. After! this, however, Otaki got a slight advantage and was never headed.
