STRENUOUS STRUGGLE.

POLICEMAN AND BURGLAR. I EARLY MORNING CAPTURE. AT DEVONPORT. REVOLVER PLAY. AUCKLAND, September 29. For the past two months there have beern numerous burglaries in Devonport, and early this morning Constable | Nehoff, who had been specially select- | •ed for night patrol duty, made an ar- | rest in sensational circumstances, after a twenty minutes' struggle. j At about 3.-15 a.m., the 'constable i noticed a man in the Auckland Meat j Company's premises, and waited for, the intruder to emerge. Under cover | of the noise of a passing milk cart, ; the man wrenched open a back door. The policeman followed and after scaling two fences, one six-feet and the other ten-feet high, came up to the suspect. As the latter failed to stop when ordered, the constable fired a revolver, mainly as an alarm. A few paces further on. it is stated, the man turned, presenting a revolver and allegedly threatened to shoot the constable, "who again fired, the bullet grazing the man's hip. The latter then threw away his revolver .and as he turned, the constable leaped, bearing him to the ground. A fierce struggle ensued. Constable I Nehoff is an experienced wrestler, Hut he had great difficulty in handcuffing his man. The man under arrest *s I Alfred Arthur Hinds. a professimat I wrestler, known as ''Soldier Tbomp- * son."
