LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.
An interesting and amusing evening is promised for Monday next, when essays by ladies oil "What Women Most Dislike in Men. - ' and by gentlemen on "What Men Most Dislike in Women,'' will be submit t i.'d. Mrs Si aide has kindly consented to judge the men's essays, and Mr Stable the women's. The Secretary of the Society, Mr S. \V, Brooker, will be pleased to enrol iuw members. The subscription for the session is 2s 6d. On .Monday a debate took place on ''That dramatic and epic poetry have done more towards the uplifting of humanity than literary prose." Mr C. F. Atmore. LL.B., took the affirmative and was seconded by Rev. R. P. Keall. Mr Byron Brown spoke for the negative and was seconded by Mr W. 11. Wills. B.A, The debate was thrown open for general discussion. The president and Mr.- C. V. Swabey also spoke. On a siiow of hands at the close of the debate the affirmative was shown to have won.
