CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The monthly meeting of the Otaki Chamber of Commerce was held l.i-t evening. Mr. L. G. Lowry (President) presiding. The President reported that he and Mr. Morse had waited on the Borough Council relative to improvements on Tasman Road, and had received a most courteous hearing, while it must be admitted that they had been successful in their venture. The Mayor had expresspleasure that the Chandler was working in harmony with the Council, ami promised assistance as tar as finances would allow. Mr. Heald dealt with the able manner in which the County Engineer had had the Otaki bridge repaired, and moved that a vote of appreciation I'm' accorded him for the expeditious mannor j;; '."men he had effected repairs.— This was seconded by Mr. "Evans, mid carried Tie. President pointed our that it had been mentioned to him that the Auckland express should stop at Otaki. He thought it a large order, but still sawno reason why the Chamber should uo.t move. Other members favoured the move. while some considered there was no possible chance of securing a stoppage. It was decided to seek information on the matter. The matter of the open drains being badly lighteu was dealt with, it being pointed out that minor accidents bad occurred. —Decided to write to the Borough Council and ask for better lighting facilities.
