i ? I RAILWAY QUEEN. J A meeting of all interested in the ' Railway Queen (Miss F. Bevan) are invited to attend a meeting at the schoolroom, Otaki Railway, on Monday at 7.30. ; MAORI QUEEN.

A large number of Natives met tf.i Wednesday and after a full and free discussion decided to ask Miss Rangt Webber, of Kapiti, to act as queen. Mr Ben Ling was elected Secretary, while a strong committee was also appointed. Messrs Ling and Matoaga Baker were elected as representatives on the executive. The Maoris intend 10 open the carnival with a "nanmai" evening on Thursday 17th, when there will be fun for all. Preparations are already in hand and those not conversant with a "naumai" should attend. The charge will be 2s (3d, including a liberal supply of refreshments. Particulars "ill appear later. At a meeting yesterday it »a« decided to hold a concert on the 17th, and that the queen's colours be red and white. A large committee has been formed to work in the queen's interests. BEACH QUEEN.

A public meeting was held in the Otaki Theatre on Wednesday night, when there was a very representative gathering of Miss Edna Cotterell's supporters. Mr Eric S. Mosley was elected to the chair and Mr A. M. Dunkley elected secretary. An executive committee of IS person., was then formed, and the executive committee then proceeded to dis* cuss ways and means of furthering the interests of their candidate for royal honours. Mr Mosley, with Mr Dunkley, were appointed delegates for the main committee. A vote of thanks to Mr E. Morse for his kindness in permitting the free use of the theatre for tiie meeting was heartily accorded. ilr C. E. CBtteroll has offered a gold specimen fur an art unioa for the Beach quean, 'while llr Tosstaan Iras offered a stele, and Mr Burred some leather work.
