THE HALE-HOLIDAY.

To The Editor. Sir,-—Kindly gram oic r.pueo i: yt>ui columns to express my viisww in connection with the coming pull or. the halfholiday question. There has hern much Sjttid both for and agsuns' - :i change ii. the present conditions, but I foil to see what good a change will do. and to what extent it will benefit the town. One of the principal cries is that people go to Levin on the Saturday to do ■ heir shopping. I don't think l'pr one moment that they go with the express purpose of shopping except in eases wh:>n the goods are unprocurable here. More so you will find that it is on a Tuesday chiefly that you will find Otitki-ites up in Levin on account of it being stock sale day. In reply to ""Wednesday Voter" I beg 10 point out the fact that in most cases, instead of getting half served, you can get better service by day than perhaps is available by night, as on Saturday nights there would always be the same old story. Everything left until the last, minute, then a rush at S o'clock or perhaps have tp go without altogether until Monday. As fur as lighting up the town goes, it is ouly a matter of time when we will have the Mangahao scheme through, and then wo can have the town lighted up every night of the week. Oh, how gay the town will be then! In reference to "Contributed," I may suggest that owing tp the progress and prosperity of the last two years, due to the Saturday half-holi- I day, it is perhaps the first collar this good lady has been able to purchase for | Dad since pre-war, and it is very pro-J bable that she may have forgotten the sue. Again "Contributed" says Saturday half-day has had a fair trial. I beg to difier as you will call to mind we started the Saturday half-holiday in the middle of winter. On top of that came the' s-] U njp. Money was scarce so people could not spend as freely as they would like. Nor." that things are beginning to right them'Salves, and before we ha.v» given the

(day a fair chance a few are advocating for a change, in fact squealing before they are hurt. I, for one, certainly uphold "Fair Play" in his statement that the employees are worthy of consideration and should have a chance to voice their opinions. Again Saturday is the recognised half-holiday for I all labour in and around Otaki, and as . I all sports and games take place on Sat!urday afternoon I think you could not i do better than leave things as they are and give all a chance to lake part in whatever recreations are to be had. |

.Vow resideuts roll up and support the sports and vote for Saturday half-holi-day.—l am, etc., WEEK-ENDER.
