REST RESORT AND DOMAIN.
To The Editor. Sir,—lt was with vary mixed feelings that I read in to-uigl>r's ••'Poi-r the account oi the opening of the memorial gates at Weraroa domain-- i grand and evorlr..-;ing tribute to our fallen heroes. all that section of lui.d i (i) for is . growing a eiop w-ecks and a handful of hay. I hear that the comnjittcc in j charge of affairs have no cash and a big overdraft on which they havo to pay interest. Well, Sir, 1 would humbly suggest that they sell their white elephant and pay off the overdraft; the balance so obtained could purchase a section about a chain in width (now for sale) on Mill Road backing on to our Domain (?), and with the help of the public and the returned soldiers erect a line gateway as a memorial and incidentally improve the entrance to the Domain. I have no doubt some of our leading citizens would donate a seat or a few shrubs to make an ideal rest resort, where visitors and others could find rest and comfort in beautiful surroundings, and would know at a glance while coming to the town that wo had <i domain, and remember our dead. Hoping J have nor trespassed too much on your space. —T am. etc., W. 11. PERCIVAL. P.H. —I notice the section is largely used .as an entrance to the domain at present, instead of the gate in a byroad.— W. H. P. Otaki. April 12, 192.'!.
