CROQUET.
A VISIT TO PALMERSTON NORTH. A party of Otaki ladies—enthusiastic croquet player-—jourouyed to J’almerston to witness the tournament now in progress there, and, at the same time glean information regarding municipal greens, there being a move io secure municipal greens in Otaki. It was found that the Palmerston North Borough Council had laid out two acres, on which there were lour croquet greens, four tennis courts, and a, bowling green. The work has been well carried out and the remainder of tin: area planted with hedges, foliage; plants, etc., which help to make the place a highly attractive one. Iho Couueil did the work four year- ago and the various Clubs interested pay inn r- • est on the money invested, 'i he .-cho,..s appears to be giving evviy ..-ati-laeuon to all concerned, and when a similar thing i- placed before th Otaki Borough Council mi doubt it will in givii every consideration. It i. .1 lor n that at present the Otaki Croquet Club is cramped lor room, and that many | member:- are unable to indulge in games on this account. Home membero: the bowling club are willing to assist the Club secure more ground, others are adverse, and there the matter rests. The members of the Croquet Club who journeyed to Palmer-ton ucie grerlly impressed, and expect t„ carry weight when they wait on the local Council.
