Mr and Mrs T. O ’Rourke are at present in Christchurch on holiday. Mr and Mrs J. P. Brandon returned to Otaki yesterday, after an enjoyable month’s holiday in the north.
The death occurred on Friday at the M.astcrton Hospital of Mr James Woods, son of Mrs Bdith Woods and the late James Woods, of Otaki. Deceased was 3i) years of age. Deceased for some time was proprietor of the Telegraph Hotel. Miss .Louise Mack, the * authoress, who lias been lecturing in New Zealand for the last couple of years under the education boards, has just achieved a
markable feat. All her manuscript of a book she had just finished was de-
st roved by fire in Auckland over :» year ago. Now she has written the book all over again, ami after a year’s persistent work she lias completed her
iask, a book of over 100,000 words dealing with life in New Zealand and Kurope entitled “Let the Rest of the World Go By.”
Mr and Mrs Btandish and family, who have been residents of Waihoangu for some years, were l’arewelled on ♦Saturday night, and presented with a valuable travelling rug. A euchre party and dance were prominent features, and a pleasant time was spent. Mr s. Morgan, who made the presentation, referred in the highest terms to Mr and Mrs ♦Standisli. and while regretting their departure wished them every success. Mr Standish, who was greeted with applause, suitably replied. Miami Mrs .Standish left for their new uome at Ohakune on Tuesday, carrying with them the best wishes of all.
