OTAKI BOROUGH COUNCIL
SPECIAL MEETING.
A spcciul meet ing of the above was held last night, Cr. C. Kilsbv (DeputyMayor) presiding. There were also present Crs. H. Taylor, 11. Cockrell, A. W. Broadway, J. R. Bills, and R. Carkeek.
The following letter was read from the Horowhenuii County Council: — “Consequent upon the alteration of the boundaries of the Otaki Borough, whereby the County lost some -J9 assessments valued under the old valua-
U"ii at about £19,000, the special rates i 1 r interest on loans need re-adjust-ment . Regarding this matter as between this County and the Otaki Borough f the lute Mr Ralston (Audit Inspector) investigated the figures and examined the position, and under date the 17th September last, wrote (inter alia): ‘I suggest that: arrangements he made to make the apportionment by consent based on the relative valuations as at the 31st March, 1922, taken from the Department's summaries. | In this case the apportionment of the whole-riding loans would be based on the following figures taken from the rateable capital value: —
The apportionment of the interest oil the drainage loan (Mnngaponri creek) bn awn to the County ns Interest A/e I No. S, depends upon the determination ot’ the valuations of the properties in the Special Rating Area. , How Mr Ralston \s proposal would work out is as hereinafter shown:—

terest £3l 7s. Under the last arrangement the Borough paid £l9 13a 3d and the County’s share was £1 13s 9d. As all the area
has gone to the Borough, il would be best for the Borough to take over this loan. There was a debit balance on the 31st March. 1932. of £39 Ss Id, which has been reduced during the year to £l9 Ms 3d.
“No. S:” I sent you a ropy of the original ratepayers ’ roll, but no map of the YPtingapouri Special Rating District
could be found. I submitted the roll to Mr H. Freeman, one of the oldest inhabitants of the district, and from his conclusions as to the position of the properties the charge of £l9 per annum ns the Borough’s share of the interest is ritther under the mark than above it. I am, however, jirejiared t" further discuss the position with you or your Finance Committee if you so desire.
