I Mr Coleman, the Palmerston North motor cyclist who put up a world's record at Takapuna recently, starten riding in 1912, and has had 18 spills, none of wdiich resulted in any bones being broken. When he lalis or feels that he has lost control of his front wheel, Coleman completely relaxes, and this theory, by which it is said an intoxicated man who does this act unconsciously can never get hurt, is something which must require a great deal of nerve to do.—Manawatu Times. The danger of smoking near a haystack was illustrated at Kakaramea (says the Patea Press). Mr Lord was standing- near a large stack of jus, 15yds long by 6yds wide and about 20ft nigh, and was in the act of lighting his pipe when the head of the match that lie was striking Hew oft, and before he could look round the • stack was burnt to the ground. The < stack was not insured. Thanks to the efforts of some neighbours an adjoining' stack was saved: |
