Messrs Blackuroro Bros.. To lloio, j wrote: ''Having heard that the other S two parlies interested in this bridge business are not anxious to make use of j the £2OO each granted to them by your Council to give them access to their I respective properties. I am writing asking you if the fcJ'JU granted to us ] ivill be spent in giving us access to our property, as owing to recent rains, it j ha- damaged the track to such an ex.- | tent that it is impossible to either get j Meek on or off the property, and in wet weather neither man nor beast can got on or oil the place, leaving the position j a very serious matter to us. We j have a freehold title to the land and ! we look to the Council'to give us ac- ! Cess to the property before they can demand rates from us, and until «e are assured of access we object to paying any more rates on the place. It ih very discouraging to go on to a bush farm and try to subdue the wilder::e-? while the Council will do nothing but demand heavy rates of you." The Chairman said he supposed he had made more explanations on this subject than any other and was stid being misunderstood. At his last inciting with Messrs Kussling, Corrigan and Blackmore, he suggested to these gentlemen that if they wanted to utilise the loan money they should build a bridge to each property and that they should come to an agreement to build accordtag lo the specifications, each taking
I £2OO, and doing the work for that, I whatever it cos!. He explained that I the whole of them would have to agree I tn that and cue only alternative was 1 to return (he loan to the Advances De|i pariiiicnt. These people were in a > veij' ■ unfortunate position in having no access and no doubt their rates were heavy as they were paying many_speMi rate.- Tor special purposes over which the Council had no control. The Council would be quite willing to go | en as soon as there was an agreement. | Cr. Kyder moved and Cr. Harkness seconded that a reply be sent on the | lines of the Chairman's statement. ; Cr. Knos said the parties could not sgree about what thev were going to do. Tlie Chairman said the applicants had uo legal or dedicated road on their Rootage or into their property. The Manakau Branch of the Farmers' Onion recently passed the following resolution: "That we learn the waiu • road passiug through Manakau is short- . V to '.'• scarified. We would draw the j ouncii's attention to the disgraceful' state of this road and also to the by- I ( reacts and footpaths in and around '" Manakau. It is thought by membeisj' of the Union that now would be a fav- 1' durable opportunity to tar-seal a sec- |' tion of this road and have the foot- I paths and kerbings renovated." i The Chairman said the question of footpaths and tar sealing was one that : would have to be taken in hand when the estimates were considered for the ] corning year. j J A Dangerous Bridge. |

The Chairman said there was no doubt the Council had no power to do an ything to this bridge as it had not Wutrol over it. The attention of the : Kaihvav Department should be drawn to it, ' "r. Knox said the road was. in a v * r .'-' bad state and there was great ' ™k of accident there. ; Cr, Kyder: I would like to draw at- i 'Nation to the whole bridge.
