WATER FOR POWER.

WILL THB SERVICE BE SUFFICIENT? Mr J. Fogden wrote to the Borough Council last night asking if water would be available for driving a milking machine. The Clerk stated that, there would not be enough water for power.

Cr. Kilsby said this was to be regretted, and contended if there was not enough water for power they would uot have enough water for ordinary use. If. appeared to him that: the service was too small. in answer to Cr. Taylor the Clerk said Otaki's supply would be as good as that at Levin.

•Cr. Kilsby said if they could not give water now what would it be in another ten years’ time.’ The scheme was a new one, should be adequate, and thus bring in revenue. He had intended putting in a Belton wheel, but on the face of matters could not do so, and it appeared to him that the service was not going to be so good as desired. Further, he considered the service should be brought in much cheaper than stated. By refusing to give power they would lose revenue, and the town would be ” missing the bus” by giving an inadequate service. The Mayor suggested that water for power be granted during the pleasure of the Council. Cr. Kilsby: Make it for a term of years. The Mayor: No! Cr. Kilsby: Tlich we are throwing our revenue away —we arc throwing money away and wasting good opportunities.
