WAIKANAE.

On Wednesday night last a public farewell was accorded Mrs Taylor upon her retirement from the position of postmistress, which position she has successfully occupied for eight years. Dancing and music was indulged in during the early part of the evening, after which Mr Field, M.P. for the district, in an aptly-worded speech, presented, the guest of the evening with a cheque as a small appreciation of the goodwill of the residents of Waikanae, whom the had served so long and faithfully. Mrs Taylor replied, thanking the residents for their goodwill and wishes. A very dainty supper was then served by the ladies. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing.
