It was also resolved to hold a social and dance, and thus endeavour to wipe out ■ the deficit. * Mr Lowry regretted that some of the people of the town were not keen enough to support the .Society, and made reference to the poor attendance, which he considered a disgrace, at the last concert. The last two functions, he said, had proved a financial failure, and this proved the Society was nut getting the support it was entitled to. It had been given no encouragement, and if the organisation was not going to meet with financial success in future it would be better to carry on in a quiet way.
! Mrs Stable suggested forming a small committee and soliciting support. There ! were many who should, she contended, 1 be proud of the Society and many, if asked. no doubt would give financial asj sistance. Several people in the town ' could easily make substantial dona- ' tions and not even miss them, while at 1 the same time the smallest of donations would be most acceptable. If the Society could not get support it would j have to disband, which would be a great pity.
