COUNTY PATRIOTIC MATTERS.

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The' periodical meeting of the Horowheuua County- Patriotic Association was held in Levin on Wednesday. Present: Messrs. P. W. Goldsmith (chairman), A. McKay, W. Howell, B. Maclean, C. S. Keedwell and G. Catlev. CORRSEPONDENCE. In response to letter from the Wan-ganui-Waitotara Patriotic Association, it was decided to make a payment of £ll 3/6 to a soldier's widow in respect to funeral and other expenses. •Several letters were read from soldier settlers regarding repayment of their loans, some forwarding instalments and others portions of instalments, the letters showing the soldiers were doing their best to make repayment. The application of an Ohau soldier for a loan was held over in the meantime. The Association authorised the Wellington War Relief Association to make a payment of £2 to .an ex-Levin soldier now in Wellington. The payment of 10/ per week to a Shannon soldier was continued for a further period. It was decided to reinvest the sum of £IOOO for a term of five years with the Public Trust. Mr R. T. Martin made an offer of £SO for the Association's section in Salisbury and Essex Streets.

Mr Keedwell said the Government valuation was £6O, and he thought it only fair that other soldiers should have the opportunity of getting the section if they desired. He moved that the section be offered for sale bytender, the local executive having power to deal with the matter. This course was adopted.
