METING. j The annual schools’ championship I sports meeting was held on the domain | on Saturday under perfect weather eou- | ditions, when the live schools, Packet- ! kariki, Paraparaumu, Wuikauac, Kikiorangi and To lioro, competed for the shield, presented by the Paraparaumu Club three years ago. With the exception of To lioro, which had only eight ■ competitors, the other schools were represented in full strength. The programme, a lengthy one of thirty-nine events, catered for the child of tender years, intermediate classes, and senior standards, over all distances, and included a boy..’ tug-of-war, girls ’ relay, high and long jump. Paekakariki team I were unable to remain for the tug-of-war, which was won by AVaikanae. '“Kiki” carried off the honours in the jumps. Paraparaumu relay team were unfortunate in not winning this event through one ox their members colliding with a Paekakariki member when within a few yards from the tape. The judges awarded the race to Paekakariki ' team. The points scored bv each school were Paraparaumu 117, Kikiorangi Sl*. Paekakariki sb. AVaikanae 45j, Te Horo 12. The Paraparaumu school thus retain the shield for the third year. In the sheep guessing competition the correct weight was 83jlb-:, and the nearest guesses to this were by Mrs W. J. Howell S 4, and Mr John G. S3;lbs. Mrs Tama Parata won' the chain steepping event.
