- -S It is .reported that the recent race meeting at Foxton was quite a financial success, and a cheque was paid in to the Government for the two days amounting to £3099 7s lid. The suitability of the Foxton racecourse for holding a winter meeting-, should a permit be obtained for same, was exemplified at the recent Diamond Jubilee meeting, when, on the second day. despite the heavy rainfall, the track at the time of running the last race race was not cut up to any groat extent, and apart from Maniania failing in the hurdles (first race) there were no mishaps of any description. Petunia, at one time trained by Mi \Y. IP Bowden, won the Warrington Handicap at Dunedin and paid a double figure dividend. Probate won the Welter at Gisborne, while Bouecto was second in the Taraheru Handicap. It is reported that trainer J. M. Cameron has purchased the Hawk, and that the Son of Martian—Sparrowhawk will shortly be taken to Australia. The price is stated to have been somewhere in the region of four figures. If is understood that Puke Wilson will act as private trainer for Mr IV. G. Stead, as well as for the Douglas Estate in future. Palestrina is the only South Island horse engaged in the Wauganui Cup.
