Daniel Richard Cooper and Martha , Cooper were before tlie Court at Wcl- ' liugton ou Wednesday on charges of unlawfully detaining an infant child, and the mule accused with supplying -A. Sutherland with a noxious thing, ■ knowing the same to bo used for an 1 illegal purpose, and were remanded uaj til January 21. An application for bull by the it-mak- accused wa, strongly opposed by Mr Macaise-y for th-s Crown, as i; be said to defeat the ends of justice at various time*. Four illegitimate children had been plaeod in charge of the accused and they had failed to give au account of three of them, and had made contradictory; statements concerning the fourth. Be- ] sides, the body of a child had boon • buried on the premises recently occu- | pied by the accused. In these circumj stances, if bail was granted, there might he very serious # . ' f <-'-.
