VIEW FROM PAEKAKARIKI HILL.
IMPRESSES VISITING SCIENTIST
The view from the top of Paekakariki Hill, which immediately presents itself to travellers from tho south, was greeted with exclamations of surprise and delight on Sunday last by the members of the Science Congress. A party of fifty ladies and gentlemen journeyed by motors to Paraparaumu. As the first party reached the top, loud exclamations from the visitors impressed those who had made the trip before with the grandeur and beauty of the view before them. Kapiti Island, majestically rising from the sea, was the centre. Its ravines and ridges, densely covered with virgin bush, were elearly v.-en in the bright sunlight. Across the picture, stretching north and south, were the waters of the Tasman Sea, clear blue. The irregular peaks of the South Island, fringed with clouds, fleecy, and at times threatening, made a splendid background. Far below was was seen the beach, from Pukerua to Paraparaumu, with the waves lazily eoniing and going. A number of tiny dots indicated that bathers enjoy this splendid portion of the coast. The return to Wellington was made as the sun was sinking, and a golden i unset added another charm of the view from Paekakariki Hill.
