MAYOR SEEKING REELECTION.
CR. KILSBY RETIRING. At the Otaki Borough Council meeting last night Cr. Broadway expressed pleasure because the Mayor (Mr Brafldon) had decided not to resign. He regretted, however, that Cr. Kilsby had stated his intention of withdrawing from the Council table, and asked that tliis Councillor be asked to rc-consider his decision. Cr. Broadway said he desired to see the whole Council seek reelection and carry ,on the good work commenced.
Cr. Kilsby-regretted that he could not. see his way to seek re-election, and stated that it was also his intention to resign from the Power Board. The Mayor said he had fully intended to resign and seek a holiday which he proposed to spend in England. He had now abandoned the proposed trip, and would take a month ’» holiday instead. After this he would, as requested, offer himself for re-election as Mayor, and ho hoped Cr. Kilsby would reconsider the step he had decided to take.
Other Councillors spoke in a similar strain, and eulogised the excellent services rendered by Cr. Kilsby. The latter regretted that he could not. see his war to seek re-election, despite pressure on all sides to stand.
The Mayor said if Cr. Kilsby decided 10 stand ir would save the Council a deal of expense, while he was also anxious to sec the works now in progress carried to a finality by the Council who started the schemes. He said he was perfectly willing to issue a manifesto to the ratepayers asking them to reelect the present Councillors. Cr. Taylor said there was a possibility of other candidates coming forward. It was finally decided to ask Cr. Kilsby to again re-eonsider his decision and give an answer at next meeting.
