On Saturday tho competition match between tho Otaki A and B teams was played on the recreation ground. The A team batted first and knocked up 69, Bowden playing a useful innings of 23, Eohua being tho next highest scorer with 10 not out. In the Northern Competition on Saturday, Shannon defeated Levin Y.M.C.A., and Weraroa beat Foxton. Wcraroa is now leading with four wins out of live games, Y.M.C.A. and Shannon being next with three wins each.
THE SECOND TEST. N.Z. 373; M.C.C. 329 FOR SEVEN WICKETS. Christchurch, Saturday E" Tho second test match, M.C.C. Zealaud, was resumed in bright nad sunny weather, before an attendance of about 7000. The end of the day's play leaves tho match in a very interesting state and there is almost certain to bo a draw. In New Zealand's tail McGirr batted without a mistake. The English fielding was crisp all through and the bowling steady. The Englishmen, did not bogin too promisingly, but Chapman and Wilkinson put up a valuable stand, as did Haitloy and Brand later. The 2so\v Zealand bowling was ver3* stcady till the tea adjournment, and then fell oil. Three or four fairly ea*y catches were dropped by the New ZaaJauders. Scores to date:—
