1 Arrangements are being made by u I Levin party to cross the Turaruns 'luring the coming holiday.'. Mr Geo. Craven, of Wellington, has purchased a farm at To Horo, anil has taken up residence there. The Otaki Borough Council’s offices tvill bo closed from December 2-3 th to January 6th, both days inclusive. Rates for the Otaki Borough Council are coming in well, but defaulters should remember that a 10 per cent, penalty will soon be inflicted. It was estimated at the school breaking up .ceremony on Friday that Mr V. Burns Smith had that day completed 20 years’ service as head-teacher of Otaki School. Mr Eric Morse, with characteristic enterprise, gave a picture matinee on Saturday afternoon, which was fully appreciated by all present. Another matinee will be held next Saturday. Ar the school breaking up on Friday it was mentioned by the head-teacher (Mr W. Burns Smith) that the attendance at the local school ha.- greatly increased. Increased staff and increased school accommodation are both likely in the near future. , Owing to motor-car troubles several of the bandsmen were unable to reach Otaki in time ro play out oil Friday night, but will play in Otaki township on Wednesday evening at 7.30, when a collection will be taken up to provide Xnia.s cheer for Sanatorium and Hospital patic-nts. Wilson, £1 Is. The attendance at the Otaki State School for the last year, says the heaiteacher (Mr Smith), was phenomenally good. Forty-eight pupils gained the attendance certificate of the Education Department, which means that each of the.se forty eight bed not missed more rhnn two"and a-hali days during the whole year. Usually, hitherto, only about 20 have qualified, so that in this matter also the parents air- la be congratulated a-s well a? the school. Mir E. Looser, who ha' been in business in Otaki for the past twelve months, thank.- customers for their liberal support, he being well satisfied -with the support accorded him. Mr Looser, to cope with increasing bustmess. and being an:dous to give satisfaction, had added greatly to hi:- stock, while his show-cases, etc., make a display that is highly creditable. He now has a full range of watches, docks, jewellery, etc., to choose from, while a specialty if made of electro-plate ware.

A horse belonging to Hr Horace Noble became frightened this morning while left unattended at Otaki Railway and collided with Messrs Taylor Bros’:' verandah post. The result was that a shaft of the vehicle was broken. The horse, getting free of part of its harness, continued its career along the road till stopped. A tailor-made suit, never worn, is for sale.
