The Hutt County Council meets to morrow at Wellington.

Mrs Mcßeath has generously made a further donation to the funds of the Otaki Brass Band, for which member? are grateful. Constable Satherley on Friday night arrested a woman who was badly under the influence of liquor. On Monday she appeared before Messrs F. Bennett and H. Xicolson, J 's.P., and fined 20s with car hire 2s 6d.

The Otaki Brass Band played selections at the Sanatorium on Sunday, when the music was appreciated by all present. Cm Friday night the Band will play in the township when a collection will be taken up to provide Xmas cheer for the Hospital and Sanatorium patients.

Those who are. fond of music should not miss the Otaki Choral Society's concert on Thursday night. Prices fir* reasonable, a large crowd is expected. therefore patrons should book their seats. The box plan is open at Mr Lowry's.

Mr Clark McCoaachy, the well-known billiard player, gave an exhibition at the Otaki Club on Saturday nighr. Despite the unfavorable weather there was a fair attendance. During the evening he .played a game with Mr King, a local player, but won somewhat easily. McConachy played splendidly, and his shots were admired. His exhibition of trick shots wa<- a Tevolatien.

Mr \V. Dale, who has been on the farm-staff of the Central Development Farm for the last eight years, has received an appointment in the meat inspection department of the Palmerston North abattoirs, and has left to take up his new duties. On Friday lie was entertained by the staff and residents at the Farm, and the manager, Mr W. .1. McCulloch, presented him with a pair of pipes and tobacco pouch and wished him all future success. Mr Dale, who has been popular with all at the Farm, made suitable response and thanked everyone for their kindness and good wishes.

An'unusual case was heard at the Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, on Monday morning, when Edward Alexander Fitzgerald, grocer, of Frankton Junction, was charged with disposing of goods by means of a lottery, or game of chance. Tlie defendant pleaded guilty. Detective Culloty stated that the defendant had advertised a scheme for a "free grocery day" at his premises during a period of 25 trading days in October. Everything sold for cash on that day Was to carry a refund in goods to the same amount. The day was chosen by ascertaining the average cash takings for the 25 trading days, and the day on which the takings appeared nearest to this average was to be "free grocery day.". Purchasers producing cash dockets for goods bought on thai da*' were to receive goods to an equal amount gratis. Fitzgerald was fined £5, and ordered to pay cost*.

A paragraph in one of the reports presented to the Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand at its sitting in Christcliurch stated that a spurious and clandestine Masonic organisation, known as Co-Masonry, which had been nt work in the Homeland Tor some time, was now -etting up lodges in New Zealand. This body professed to work the degree? of Craft Masonry, to admit women, and to confer degrees and signs claimed to be Masonic, and endeavoured in different ways to copy the practice- of Freemasonry. Attempt* have been made to induce Freemasons to attend its meetings. The Board of General Purposes had considered it necessary to issue instruction? warning members of the Craft that if they attended any of these meeting they will violate their obligations and render themselves 'liable to Masonic discipline. Miss Baiter is booking orders for the Adams Bruce rich Xmas cakes, and those who have not put in an order should not delay, otherwise they may be disappointed.

Mr and Mrs M. Fisher, who have been in business in Waikanae for some years, have sold to Mr Butler, of Wellington, and leave for fresh fields at an early date. A thanks notice appears alsewhere.
