presentation of trophies. The “wind-up” dance, and presentation of trophies won during the season took place last, night, when the theatre was effectively decorated for the occa pion. There was a splendid attend •nice, while Jirst-class music was sup plied by members of the Tnhiwi family. Mr R. Aldrich was a capable M. 0., ami under his guidance things were kept merrily going. The floor was in fair order, while the supper arrangements, thanks to a fine ladies’ committee. was fully enjoyed. The Horowheima Rugby Union was represented by Hr L. fct. Carmichael (the energetic and capable secretary) and Mr L. Dixon, also an enthusiastic worker. Duringj the evening the latter said it gave him great pleasure to present the beautiful cup so generously given by the Licensed Victuallers of Otaki and won by the Otaki Club. He also presented two | handsome gold medals, donated by Mr I G, 'Williams (President of the Club) to j the best forward (Dir G. Xeviands) and the best back (Mr R. Tnhiwi). In doing so Mr Dixon referred to the fact that Mr Williams was an old-time play- j cr of note, and referred to the fact that football in Otaki during the season had been on the up grade and that he was pleased to see it has reached a high standard. He was also gratified to know that the public had given hearty support, and spoke warmly of the man-j nor in which the licensed victuallers] had assisted sport and the way they had® entertained teams. .Special reference j was made to the manner in which they I had entertained the Golden Bay team, li. Reverting to the Otaki Club Mr Dixon | said it had done exceptionally well. 1. having gained third place in the chain-1.
pionsliip and won the cup, winning four games while one was drawn. He considered it a most creditable record, especially as the Club possessed barely the fifteen players. He hoped next year the Club would lie able to enter both senior and junior teams. After wishing the Club success he handed lineup to Mr Williams amidst applause. Mr E. D. Wilson endorsed the re marks and also congratulated the team, adding that it had been a pleasure to the demurs of the cup to know it had caused such keen interest. Mr Williams said lie was proud (if the Club and considered it had done exceptionally well, especially ns the members had had but little coaching. He hoped in future they would train hard and attain n higher standard, and at the same time continue to be good clean sports. There was nothing like honest sport for both the mind and body. (Applause). Three cheers wore then given for Mr Williams, after which all joined in singing “For He’s it Jc.llv Good Fellow.”
