Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report that at their Levin stock sale on Tuesday last they offered a small yarding of sheep and a good yarding of cattle. A good clearance was effected; the principal prices being as under: —Romney ewe hoggets, 32s Od; fat cow.., £ I Ss; empty heifers, £4; springing cows, £7; yearling heifers, £2 7s; half-draught mare, £l6 lbs. At Waikauae on Wednesday a fair yarding of cattle came forward and a total clearance was effected. Quotations: —I-’at bullocks, £7; forward bullocks, £5 4s; springing heifers, £5 7s 6d; 2 and 3-year steers, £3 10s. At Upper Hutt on Thursday a fair yarding of cattle came forward, and a good clearance was effected. Quotations: —Springing cows to £10; cows in milk to £3 10s; store cows, £2 11s to £3; springing heifers, £4 3s to £5 10s; yearling Hereford shorthorn and steers, £2 11s.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Go’s., Ltd., usual fortnightly sale was held on Friday, and there was a good attendance of buyers. Thero was good demand for sheepskins at an advance of Id to id on last sales rates. The competition for hides was good and heavy sorts, and showed an advance of -Id to id per lb., and light damaged hides and calfskins were on a par with last sales prices. Tallow sold readily at fin advance of from Is to 2s per ifkins.—Half bred, sii to Sd; fine crossbred, fid to Sfd; rued, coarse crossbred, 3*d to 6jd; short to half wools, Id to sd; lambs, 2d to 7d; dead and damaged crossbred. Id to 6}; inferior and badly damaged, id to 3id; pelts, Id to lid; damp, salted, and green, Is 6d to 4s fid. Hides. —Ox, heavy, 501bs up, did tj 9jd; ox. medium, 50-58. 6id to S|d; ox, light, 40 and under, 5Jd to 7d; cut, slippy, and inferior. 4d to 7Jd; cow, heavy, 551bs and over, 6£d to Sd; cow. medium. 42-54, d}d to 7§d; cow, light, under 42, 6ld to 7id; cut. slippy, and inferior, Id to 6Jd; bull, stag, 2d to 3§d; yearlings, 11-32, 5d to Sd; calf, superior, up to 10 lbs, lod to load; calf, med.. good, up to lOlbs, 7d to calf, damaged up to lOlbs, Id to Hi cl.
