There is keen competition at Otaki hen eh in milk, which is now being sold at 3}d per quart. Another area of land at Otaki beach has been sub-divided and will shortlr In' placed on the market. The Otaki Football Club has decided 'o hold a wind-up social. It will take place about the middle of October. -Mr Byron Broun has offered a section of land in the vicinity of the Otaki beach as a donation towards a home for motherless children. A lorry, fully laden, capsized at the week-end opposite Mr A. A. Brown's tlaxmill through getting over too far to the side of the road. Luckily, very little damage was done. Information is to hand that Father Zureher and Mr Todd will speak in the Otaki theatre next Monday evening, lull particulars will be advertised on Wednesdav.

At the present time it costs gos per plank to land decking at the Tlorowhenna Council's bridges, the labour of putting them in place being an ezrta charge. Although this hardwood deckj tag is an expensive item, the price quoted above represents a crop of 20s per 100 ft within the ia=l 12 months. In the same time the junk hardwood used for stringers has fallen 40s per 100 ft —from 9i\s to 50 s per 100 ft. It is stated that it would cost £2OOO st the present time to redeck the Otaki bridge, and £7OO to re-deck the Ohau. A girl is advertised for. The Otaki State irchool committee meets to-night. Mr H. Cockrell has an important replace in this issue. A euchre party and <darc4 will be held at Te Horo on Wednesday, when it is expected there will be i large gathering'.

The annual meeting of the Otaki Tennis Club will be held to-morrsw night in the Druids’ Hall. A meeting of farmers and producers will be held in the theatre samplerooms to-night at S o ’clock. Mr H. P. Jensen has started a motor .service between the Otaki beach and the railway station, and passengers will be conveyed to and from at lowest rates. “Assure your life” is the heading of the National Mutual Life Association’s advertisement published elsewhere.
