RESULT OF RUSSIAN INTRIGUE.

CONSTANTINE AGAIN ABDICATES SULTAN’S THRONE TOTTERING. London, September 27. Mr Martin Donohoe, the “Daily Chronicle’s” correspondent at Constantinople. says: “It is idle to close one’s eyes to the fact that Kemal appears to be riding for a fall. He is flushed with victory; his army is composed of fanatical fighters, who clamour to be led to the rccon<|uest of Constantinople, which is a tempting prize. I understand Kemal’s counter-proposals embrace the inclusion of .Bulgaria and Soviet Russia in the Peace Conference, the right of Turkey to fortify the shores of the Sea of Marmora, and a disinclination to agree beforehand to the demilitarisation of the Dardanelles. Moreover, j Kemal says the cessation of Turkish military operations-is contingent upon Britain abstaining from sending military reinforcements to Turkey, so the arrival of the British transports now on the way may precipitate a crisis. Owing to Kemal’s bellicose attitude, the British arc arranging for the repatriation of their nationals, including Judi-| ans, Maltese and commercial men to the number of 5000. All foreigners are now leaving Constantinople; also Turks arc deeply compromised owing to th.eir anti-Natioualist proclivities. Panic prevails at the Yildikiosk. tin- j Sultan beng overcome when hi* Minsters announced tlieir resignation-, owing to Kemal announcing his inten- j tion to appoint a National Grand 1 izier j at Constantinople to represent the Angora Government. Hamid Boy i.- certain to be the Nationalist Grand Vizier, and Mahemet VI. is living in hourly dread of his position, owing to his proAlly sympathies. The favoured candidate for the throne is Prince .Selim, who fought in the Balkan War as a cavalry officer and has strong Nationalist. leanings. Alsu in the running is Abdul Mcjid, a relative of the Sultan Abdul Aziz who committed suicide.
