BEST FARMERS 5 TURNOUT
| A GOOD CLASS AT THE SHOW. Mr John KebbeJi lias informed the Horowhenua A. and P. Association that lie is again prepared to provide the prize-money of £5 5/ for the competition which .was placed on last year's schedule at his instigation tor the heat farmer’s turnout. Mr Kebbell'.s idea is an excellent one, and should be supported by numerous farmers, as ail are in a position to cumpet.e. The exhibit is to be of farm produce grown and produced on the lurm and exhibited in the show ring in the farmer's own turn-out—horse or horses, vehicle, harness and produce, all to be taken into consideration by the judge, and till to be the property of the exhibitor. The prizemoney is £3 3/ first and £2 2/ second. These competitions are very popular iu liie Old Country, and there is no reason why they should not lake on i here, as almost every farmer has the turnout and tlie produce to permit : his doing so. The question might be ' raised that there is not much farm produce fit for exhibition in January, but there are vegetables and roots at that season that are matured sufficiently for the purpose, besides samples of green fodder such as maize, lucerne or hay, after llicit bacon, eggs, butter, and a hundred and one things that would more than load any ordinary dray, t hen the vehicle and bar- j ness need not. necessarily tie new, but * the ordinary working outfit, with a little polishing up to make a good appearance. There are great possibilities • a bead of such .. a. cggapeiltion, which miglit'eTSn be extended, hut'in 1 its present form should he quite a , feature of the local show if farmers | gave it, the support and encouragement it deserves.
